About a week ago my wife got a p0171 code. I didn't have the time to address the problem and my wife continued to drive the car. Then yesterday while I was driving the transmission began to have a hard time shifting. And within a 1/4 of the hard shifting I experienced an almost total loss of power. The car drove at 20-25 while the RPS's increased to 5000. Then within a few seconds the car stopped driving. A total loss of movement. The engine continued working but we were a dead stick.
I have never experienced a failed transmission but I am assuming that is what happened. Given the problem with the RX' s transmissions I figure this may be the case. Also, I can't imagine this is related to the P0171 but it seems strange that I would get the code before this happens. BTW, I dropped the tranny pan and refilled with Toyota ATF about 8 months ago. I checked the ATF and it appeared to be in good condition. Any thought would be much appreciated.
