Default Quick Struts?

Do they exist? I hate piecing them together. Ends up costing a fortune and spring compressors suck.

I've looked into this myself. I work for a parts distributing company and I haven't been able to source them from any of our suppliers. We had a brochure go around the office a few months ago that showed them for Camrys, Solaras, etc., but no Lexus SUVs.

I can't believe they don't offer them for this car. They made a zillion of them. I can even get OE Honda quick struts for $300 a piece from a dealer, but Toyota/Lexus must gold plate theirs and want you to buy in pieces..

But why pay for springs when you don't need them? It's not hard to do the job with the right tools. Problem is most (non-mechanics) will buy the cheapest tool to do the job (only using the tool one time, right?) and this makes the job miserable. You can take the assembly to a NAPA store and let them assemble for you - then take home and install.

The struts are less than $100 each if you shop around (check www.Partsgeek.com).

Obviously you can do that. But why not have ALL new parts....?

Many of us RX owners could benefit from a whole new assembly. Not many of us are under 100k miles on our RX's, and most suspension pieces are worn and tired.

The quick struts are one hell of a bang for your buck.

I have a few friends who are master techs at Toyota and Lexus respectively. All 3 have said to me they love the quick strut. For the money, they can't be beat.

To save money (if that is important to you).

Few year ago I replaced quick struts for my minivan Chrysler town and country, but I don't like it because a ride made big different ( stiffer/firmer struts not comfortable ride like original struts) I asked my local mechanic he told me because of the springs, quick struts only save your time and convenience but a ride is not the same .

off topic..but what brand does lexus use in the rx? KYB?

And the term 'quick struts' is that limited to Monroe or what other companies offer a drop in replacement?

I think Monroe coined "quick strut", but it seems to have caught on as a way to describe an assembled spring and strut assembly.

I like to replace the springs as the miles get up high, they do tend to sag over time.

What makes quick struts cool is the time savings and super easy install. No messing with compressing the springs.

Quick struts for a Camry are $100 a piece. There are over $200 in OE parts just to replace all of the parts that make up the assembly (not including the springs or struts). So I would argue that quick struts are much cheaper, include new springs and are easy to install and I don't have to rent a spring compressor or run to Napa and give them money to put them together.

thanks for the explanation. I have done some browsing around on other forums regarding quick struts. Though the concept for a drop in replacement is good, the ride reviews often mentioned that they were riding way softer than an OEM ride. This is due to the choice of core struts the company uses and/or their consistency to match valving during rebuilds.
I would argue, that stripping down a strut takes literally minutes if you have a cordless or electric impact gun. Most auto stores loan the spring compressors free. As far as aftermarket springs, there are lots of offerings from oem height to slightly lowered stance. You just have to do a little research on the spring rates compared to OEM to get a predictable ride.
At the moment i am leaning towards KYB gr2 struts matched with KYB K-flex oem ride height springs when it is time to refresh our 02 rx300

Don't get quick struts for the front !!!.

I have swapped out 3 different manufacturers, Monroe, Moog, and KFS, and they all make knocking/rattling sounds after a week, particularly when the temps fall below 40. The problem appears to be the upper strut mount assembly, which on other posts in the ES300 forum, the overwhelming majority of people have had problems with complete quick strut assemblies.

The upper mount/bearing/support is the key. There are only 4 tightening surfaces, 1 for the strut, and 3 for the mount, and it seems impossible to create any noise from that join, once they are torqued to spec.

But I have gone through three sets, and am ready to get the OEM parts from Lexus.

Would love to hear of your experience.

Are you replacing your upper strut mounts? Those tend to cause noises if they're bad and in colder weather they get louder. And I thought we've established that they don't sell quick struts for the RX?
