Mouse nest
A couple weeks ago I took my 01 RX 300 in to the shop because my CEL was on. The found a mouse next under the lower intake. They stated the issue is the knock sensor. It retards the timing and makes the light come on. Now after it warms up it won't shift into OD unless I restart the vehicle. I took it back in and they said it was a failsafe from the timing being retarded. They think the mouse was chewing on the wires and created a short. To replace the wiring harness they want $800.
I'm getting so sick of computer controlled vehicles as they are just big money pits. Does anyone have a DIY solution to fix this. I tried so see under the lower intake but it's pretty far down.
Thanks in advance!!

Hey I just found a rodent nest in the same spot! Here's a picture.
I don't know if disabling the knock sensors is a good idea. The computer will not know when the timing is too advanced. If you use only high octane gas maybe it will reduce the risk.

Where do you park your RX?

The last few months it has been parked outside my garage at night. The car gets used daily.
It's hard to imagine a rodent staying under the intake manifold for long.
