Thought I share this with everyone. Each time I drive off from a stationary position, I hear that damn creaking sound that drives me up the wall. I posted a thread on 12-19-02 entitled "Creaking noise when moving off" hoping to get clues on how to solve this problem. Most thought it was a strut problem which I thought so myself too (Thank you guys for chipping in). Upon careful listening, it appeared to coming from the dashboard. Dashboard??
After months of tolerating, I decided enough is enough and I sent it back to the dealer to get it fixed. I was in luck. Apparently, mine was not the only complaint. So these guys know where the problem lies. It wasn't exactly the dashboard, but the windscreen wiper that is causing the creaking noise. The mechanic chose not to be specific when I probe deeper (hoping to give you guys a better answer). All he said was the noise was caused by a loose nut in the wiper area. Apprently each time the car moves off, the area around the nut stretches and hence the noise. It only took less than half a day to get it fixed. I was lucky though, he said the first guy who had the same problem had his car in the workshop for 3 days before they found out where the problem is.
Before leaving, he said this problem happens to only a small handful of RX300. Most RX300 are not affected.
I hope this posting will help those with a similar problem as mine. No more hair pulling...finally!!

I got my car in Feb 2002. Nah..he did not specify in detail where that nut is. Even if he did, I would not be able to see it since the plastic cover would have been placed back. But at least it narrows down the problem area. Can't be that many screws in the wiper area. Sorry, can't be more specific. But I hope this helps
