Default Performance Chip Mod, too!

Or, what about this performance chip mod?

Anybody try either of these?

Again, no eBay links allowed

Default Same questions?

The best I can figure on the performance chip mod (everything from a $2 device to a $30 device) is the old in-take air sensor fake out by putting in a 4700 ohm resiistor ($.19 cost) and letting the ECU think it needs to enrich the mixture. I have not tried it but may test it sometime to see what they are trying to claim. I don't really need to decrease my gas milage!

The transmission shift mod - I haven't got a clue, but can only guess it is a similar scam.

Default Reply from seller

Here's what the ebay seller of the Chip mod said:

"Hi,
The Racing-X module connects to the wires in between the ECU and the IAT
sensor. It will need to cut/splice the wires, but it is a relatively easy
process so I think you can probably do it by yourself. We will provide a
detail instructions. Thank you.

Howard"

Is that where you'd put the resistor you mentioned, ederny?

Default I'm going have to study up a bit more on this subject, but...

...if IAT sensor is Intake Air Temp sensor, then yes, this is what I've read in non-CL posts about the horsepower enhancement "resistor" mod.

Just more snakeoil. Remember folks to check the seller's Feedback ratings... and if you find the same item sold to someone else, you can send them a message asking them how they liked it, if it helped, etc.

With just a little research, you'll be able to find the truth.

Default More detail from the seller

The seller of this product insisted that it was more than just a resistor. Here is what he shared with me:

"The resistor mod kits that are selling on ebay will just tell the ECU that
the outside temperature is a constant 15 degrees Celsius. For example, if
you are driving in a condition that is hotter than 15 degrees Celsius,
then your car will run at a richer air/fuel ratio. However, on the other
hand, if the temperature outside is colder than that then your car will
actually running leaner and lost performance. Our Racing-X module will
get your car to run at a richer air/fuel ratio by adjusting/modify the
signals of the IAT sensor. These new signals will tell the ECU that the
temperature outside is always colder, and never hotter! Take a search of
the Apexi S-AFC controller/JET chip and you will see that we sell a
product that is basically provide the same function with much lower price.
From this point, I think you should know much about our module, and so
please get one for your LEXUS RX300! Email me if you have more questions.
Thank you!

Howard"

Thoughts? Are there other questions I/we might ask?

It's still a piece of junk. If you still are interested in it, check out some previous auctions by that seller and ask the winners if they liked the mod, and make sure they are reputable buyers, not buyers with like 5 feedback from the same seller, etc.

Keep in mind, toyota/lexus spend quality time tuning their engines for a good balance of efficiency and performance. The only thing I see that "Racing X" module do is pretty much the same thing as a resistor would, just wired differently so that it changes the over all value when the actual temperature, etc changes. I'm not very familiar with how the rx engine is, but you would probably get better gains from advancing the timing if at all possible.
