Supplementary Restraint System ... air bag system malfunction.
Now tell us what was done recently to activate the failure ...
Battery power removed without waiting after turning off the engine?
Battery terminal removed and ignition key set to ON?
Some activity around the steering wheel?
Some activity around the seats?
Please stay safe while on the road as well as trying to find/fix the problem. Air bags can explode pretty violently and if they explode with the bag facing a ridged object (floor etc) then the whole assembly is sent flying.

I have not done any of those things you mentioned.
The only thing that I've done in the last several months was replacing the reverse light bulb. (which I doubt makes any difference?)

I got the Autozone to plug in their OBDII reader. It pulled up SRS DTC error code "B1140"
which was "Side Airbag Sensor Assembly Right-hand Malfunction..." The guy hit the
CLEAR error button and the flashing SRS light went away.
However, I'm wondering what triggered it in the first place. Like I said, I've not done anything
to the car...not even plugging in a cell phone charger. In fact, nobody has sat in the right-hand
passenger seat for months.
Thanks!

I would not fret over it unless the same code comes back.

Hi!
I posted this question 4 months ago. The light went away after the code was cleared.
Exactly 4 months later, the SRS light came on again yesterday. This time, I have a scanner and I cleared the code again. The light went away and has been away for 24 hours.
I sure hope the light doesn't come back. However, I am curious as to what made it come back after exactly 4 months.

I'm actually surprised you're able to reset the SRS code. On many cars the SRS is on a separate circuit/channel and can not be reset using.the regular OBDII scanners - only emission related codes. I know even high end scanners won't work on my BMW SRS system and require a dealer (or a shop with right tool) visit.

The tool allows SRS reset for most Lexus and Toyota vehicles... as well as some GM/Ford/Chrysler/Honda
$149 each, Link to
It's also available at my local Walmart store, but with sales tax.

Hmmm... Pretty colors. I may have to invest in one. I'd like something that will read ABS and SRS codes... Plus a cool LCD readout!

it's one of the few tools that will reset Lexus SRS codes, which is why I got it.
the whole process takes less than 60 secons
(1) plug the tool into OBDII port under dash
(2) turn ignition to "on"
(3) choose "SRS" on the tool's manual
(4) SRS fault code displayed
(5) press erase
(6) done

It shows that it can read the ABS.
If you have seen my post, I need that feature now or else jumper + count.

It's actually quite easy with this tool..... takes less than 7 clicks and the SRS code is erased.

Would you know of any shops that can reset SRS codes? My dad was driving and he hit a bump in the road and the car just died and he had to restart it. Everything works fine and I drive it daily, but the damn light won't stop slow-flashing. It is incredibly irritating. No airbags were deployed in the incident, and from what mechanics I've been to they say it has something to do with the passenger airbag (maybe in seat, I don't really know) I want to see if I can reset it before I go the alternative route and just have it fixed. Thanks all!

And if you are frugal, readers that plug into your laptop that will deal with SRS and all the codes can be bought for much less. See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261607351481

Can some one confirm that 99 RX brake codes are fed through OBDII port.
I have a hunch that 99 brake codes are not.
If some one wants to be frugal, all they need is paper clip.

I may get one for the Lexus, but as I expected it will not work on German cars.
