Default Michelin 235/70R16 fit on OEM rims ??

Will a slightly wider and taller Michelin 235/70R16 Cross Terrain tire fit on the OEM 16" rim of 2001 RX2001? Factory tire size is 225/70R16. Larger tire is 0.7" taller than OEM and I'm afraid it might be rubbing the spring.

I'd appreciate a recommendation.

I have them on my 1999 and they run Like a charm...no rubbing!
I think alot of other owners on this forum would agree that is the tire and size to get.

I agree with jpappas; no rubbing/clearance problems at all.

Default $70

and OnlineTires has them for $70

At that price, its a no brainer. I ordered mine and they reached me (from LA to Seattle) in 3-4 days. Will get them mounted today.

Have you found any negatives with going with that size of tire? ie. noise, reduced fuel economy, etc.

I havent noticed anything adverse. Id say the noise factor is about the same. These tires may be slightly noisier in some situations. Other than that I have noticed better stability. You also get asthetic value. The Cross Terrains look alot better than the Integrity's.

Overall highly rocommended!

Hello gsenthil,

How is your new set of tires? I want to retire my Goodyear too. $70/tire is a great deal. Do you see any defect or anything? It is because I don’t understand why they only discount the 235 sizes. Thank you.

No problem with the tires at all. It seems that they are discounted at a number of places. It may just be that its not a popular size of tire. Thats my only explanation. They are first quality tires with a full warranty.

Default MCTs Installed

Got my Cross Terrains 235/70/16 installed Mon night at Costco for $9/wheel plus $1 for disposing the older tires. I installed them with white sidewall inside.

I am extremely pleased with them so far. There is no increase in tire noise at all! And the handling seems to be better. I cant say for sure yet because Seattle hasnt seen rains since Monday! Funny eh? But even on dry road when taking sharp turns they dont squeel as much as the Integritys which is a good sign. Ans they do look much better.

Will keep you posted when we get some rains on wet traction
