Amber Fog Lights for RX

Amber Fog Lights for RX
Hi all, this is my very first post.
I would like to change my stock "white" fog light to Amber like all the other models like the IS & GS, any sugestions?
After reading articles, I believe on the other models, there is a "Yellow Lens" in front of the bulb that gives that rich Amber glow. Now the question is, have anyone opened up the RX fog light bulb? Can the "clear" lens be removed to be replaced by the Amber??
...Besides really liking the amber color, it's my personalization...

Sheldn

Our foglights are 9006 config. If you want amber ones, you have to buy 9006 Yellow Colored bulbs. Make the foglights red, I've never seen that. It might look nice.
EDIT: It might look nice depending on your car. Hmm, green might look good too.

Thanks for the tip!
However, I would like to achieve the nice deep bright Yellow color as of the stock models i.e IS, GS etc.
So i'm not sure just a Yellow colored bulb would suffice, as opposed to the stock which has a Yellow lens infront of a white bulb.
Thoughts?

I know APC sells them. They're called icy gold or something. Type in a search at google.com for 9006 amber and you'll get some results. When changing passenger side of bulbs, take that nut off the winshield fluid tube. You can even yank the tube off its tank off. It looks pretty nice. Try it.

Try PIAA
I think PIAA makes an Ion Crystal 9006. It is a nice yellow/amber color...very much appropriate for fog lights. Plus (when thurned off) the bulb will not "show" through the clear lens as yellow it will be almost clear.

Wow! Thanks.
Now, this is just my thoughts......
I am aware that PIAA makes nice bulbs, but I've yet to ~really~ the Ion 9006 bulbs....and i'm not sure I would achieve that rich deep amber light i'm achieving...
...hence a nice bright light behind a deep amber colored lens produces such an effect...
Also, I think the yellow 'showing through' when turned is quite nice.....I happen to like that. Guess I just like that whole Amber appearance.
What do you think?

Sheldn.

Nope. I dont have Amber. I made mine HID look. hehe. I would like the get those little lights HID look too but they are a hassle to re-install. I have taking the fenderwall apart. Anyone know how to take those bulbs off w/o such a hassle?

your in luck RX469... sorry didn't see your post earlier...
i converted my low beams to hids and my fog lights i put some ion yellow bulbs in to make it look like the is and gs... very nice combo i think. Bright white lights on top and ion yellows on bottom!
i recommend to get the PIAA ION YELLOW bulbs 9006.
those should work out great.
The most yellow i have ever seen

Is the PIAA ION Yellow bulb light as yellow as the yellow foglight on the GS?
(only comparing the actual light projected on the ground)
Thanks!

There aren't any amber 9006 bulbs that duplicate the ion yellow look of the IS300 (which is acheived w/ an amber lens). I tried everything amber/yellow bulb out there that I didn't think would melt my foglight's projector lens, and nothing is quite like the look that the IS300 has. I didn't try the APC bulbs - those are WAY too high wattage to run in a closed in projector that's meant for a 50-55 watt bulb.
Someone said to try red bulbs... Personally I don't think that would look good, and it's sure to get you a ticket as red and blue lights in the front are reserved for usage by emergency vehicles only.... NOT street legal.
I have done a TON of searching on this topic (in all the lexus forums), and I've never come across a post where someone inserted an amber lens into their projector... I thought of that when I was trying to get the look you're going for too, but I gave up on it. I'm sure it can be done, but I wouldn't have the slightest clue to tell you where to look for instructions as I never found any.
My suggestion is to either go for the HID lookalike bulbs to make them match the lowbeam HID's... it looks good and won't give you the headaches I went through. Otherwise go w/ what spinteews said and get the PIAA's as theyr're the closest to the look you're going for, plus they perform GREAT in fog.

actually, those PIAA ION YELLOWS are very close.... i mean they are not perfectly exact, but they are damn close. I drove my sisters car infront of my rx3 at night and i kept looking at my lights and they look very similar to the GS and IS yellows.
suprisingly... i think those Ion Yellow PIAAs are kinda BRIGHTER then the stock IS300 yellow fogs. the reason is because 2 weeks ago my gf purchased the is300 sports design... (great car... kinda too small) and i was playing with her lights while driving at night. I turn on and off the fogs and they didn't seem to make a big difference...
i got back into my car... driving home at night and then i decided to turn of my ion yellow foggies and BIG DIFFERENCE. You can actually see a big difference from turning it off and on... but mabbie its because i have HIDS in my low? could be but still. When my lights are on and my fogs are off, you see only WHITE WHITE light on the ground... when i turn on the fogs... it floods the bottom and the entire front little less then half of my HIDS length with halogenish light on the ground.
so i'd recommend these ion yellows!!!
GO GET THEM NOW lol
peace

Hi there...thanks for your response: CK1_RX3
I guess i'm not the only one out here, wanting the "different stock look" Well, now that it's soo challenging to accomplish this, i'm even more accepting the challeng of getting that look!
Just a thought, but I was thinking of getting some 'wrecked' GS or IS fog lights and trying to retreive the amber lens from within and replacing the stock clear lens of the RX to those of the amber..........what are your thoughts. ( In the back of my mind I keep on hearing....it could be done )
Has anyone know how to "open up" the RX fog light housing to replace the lens??
If i'm successful, which I think I will be with a little elbow grease, i'll definatley let the forum know!!!
