front wheel / drive shaft noise

front wheel / drive shaft noise
So just this past weekend I have been getting a noise coming from the drivers front wheel/ drive line. The noise directly coorosponds to wheel speed not RPMs. Shift into neutral at speed has no effect.
Noise sounds a even "whirring" almost like tire noise or very rough pavement but does not feel like it is the tires.
upon inspection I found a tear in the inner CV boot and where grease was expelled. I assume this is the culprit but in my experience a bad cv has always resulted in a clunking sound as it goes. This even wearing sound has me worried its in the differential.
I am replacing the axle this evening and will probably replace the oil seal while i'm in there. Is there anything else I should check for or be concerned about?

Well the axle needed to be replaced regardless but that was not the source of my noise. I'm assuming its a bad wheel bearing. I think I'm going to take it to a shop to confirm.
Am I correct in thinking that if I replace the hub that that will already have the new bearing. Seems like that would be the easiest fix instead of try to have a new bearing pressed in but I may be mistaken.

Yes. There actually wasn't any noticeable play in the wheel. Since I wasn't capable of pressing the bearing myself I took it to a shop. Even the tech I took it to was worried it might not be the bearing because of the lack of play. But once the bearing was out you could tell it was going.
