Interesting how what works for some, doesn't for others. I absolutely love to set my dash lights on full brightness. I simply wouldn't have it any other way. As far as the green trans indicator light, I have the HID's (which have a green indicator when on)and use my cruise control alot so I don't have a choice about the green idiot lights. Plus I'm the kind of guy who likes having all his components working, so a busted bulb really irks me. Just my $0.02.

acerx, where is your HID indicator light, I have HIDs and don't have anything but a lights-on-light near the top of the panel?

That's exactly what I was talking about, I guess I didn't describe it really well. It's the same green light w/ star effect on the dash. Sorry

Thank you all for discussing this. I have been going crazy trying to figure out what was happening and it just went out last week in my 2002 RX300.

Instructions are great, I just did this in 15 minutes, swapping bulb that lights up "L" with the one for "D".
Color code for bulbs: Green ones are "D" and "P"
Tools: Phillips screw drivers (stub, long), flat head screw driver (prying and loosen bulbs).
Those large black Phillips screws are tight, so apply some pressure with a new screw driver to avoid stripping.

I hate to bring up oldies, but....

My CEL is not coming on at all, not even when starting the car. Anyone knows if it's the same bulb type or process?

Thanks.

I attempted to replace my "D" bulb this weekend and had the wrong bulb. I purchased the dash bulbs which fit all the other fixtures except for the vertical drive, reverse grouping of lights. The vertical row that is. I took my time and couldn't remove one of the three cable plugs which were frustrating. If the plug doesn't come right easily, then leave it attached. Does anyone know where to purchase the unique bulbs? They are affixed to a small plastic base unit unlike the other dash bulbs. Make sure to cover the dash with a towel as the assembly will scratch the upper dash.

When you say you purchased the dash bulbs that fit all the other fixtures, do you mean that it would fit the engine light and such? If so, where did you get it? part number? that might be what I need for my engine light.

you can get the D light from any lexus dealer. Part number is 83119-24670

I found RockAuto.com to be a great resource for Lexus parts. I recently purchased rear brake pads for 17.00 and all fluids for engine, transmission, differential and oil filters. They have great prices. Yes, the bulbs I purchased are for the dash indicators not the shift position indicators.
