air bag maintenance
We took delivery in April 1998 of our 1999 RX300, build date March 1998. I have never removed the warning labels on the sun visors that read, in part, "The airbag requires maintenance 10 years from the manufacture date on the certification label and every 2 years therafter." My airbags have never been 'maintained' and I have no idea what that would involve. Anybody?

Never heard of this until today. Sounds like a great way to make the SRS light come on when it was fine for the previous 10 years. http://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/answe...e-inspected%3F

I dont claim to be an expert, but here is my understanding.
There are two part of the system.
1. electronic initiator ... that part is tested when you turn the ignition key from acc -> run the first time [I remind every one to stop and check the lamps .. but most just click forward].
2. The actual air bag.
The second item has seen production changes and most of the newer vehicles have a lifetime bag, The older ones need inspection. It is visual and the trained person can tell if the seals have broken and moisture has entered the bag. I dont know if the moisture would be real moisture (dewing) or some discoloration.
