Looking at the service manual, it only involves taking off the lower cover to the B-pillar,
remove two bolts on the seat belt, and then remove 3 bolts for the sensor itself.
Lexus and Toyota part depts want $230 to $280 for the sensor. There are quite a few
used sensors on eBay for $50 to $70. Are used sensors safe? Is there any chance
that use sensors on eBay can accidentally deploy the side airbag?
Thanks!

Air bag problem
I had an air bag door sensor problem last Thanksgiving. However before I even thought about Easter egging the solution, I went to a very reputable non Lexus shop in my area. The cheap solution was to swap out the sensors as part of the diagnostics. The mechanic swapped them. If the problem changed sides, it pointed to the sensor. He did that, but the same error code persisted. It was the $800 air bag computer. Since this was my one and only "dealer type" repair to my vehicle in 120,000 miles and 11 years, I had no problem accepting the cost.
You might want to think over your economic decision to go cheap when it comes to a life saving device.
