Help with timing belt change
Hello to all:
I an new to the club but not to the lexus we have this RX300 2001 for the last 7 years and we love the car totally trouble free and it drive fantastic .
Since it has close to the 140 000 i decide to replace the timing belt
the fist time that i put the belt i put the belt with the wrong mark on the crank i rotate the engine 2 times by hand and then cranked the engine never start on this occasion .
then i fix the issue according to the marks on the belts and pulleys and before put all back together i start the car and runs perfect at idle but when you hit the gas peddle it bugs and it wont go over 2500 rpm
have any of you guys have this problem before ?
i an afraid that i bend some valve i have read that this is not an interference engine but i an scared
the pulley that is close to the firewall is really a pain to work and the mark is hard to see however it looks like all the marks are properly set
i also notice that after a few turns the marks on the belt and the pulley they don't match any more ,is this normal?
at this time i have the timing belt cover off and no accessory connected (no alternator or pwer steering )
any idea it will be appreciated
thanks

Welcome to CL.
There are a few videos floating around about replacing timing belt. Please check our DIY thread.
The timing marks on the belt are for the first time you put the belt,. After rotating the crank the marks go off, BUT the timing marks on the main pulley and the 2 cams must align with the making on the block side.
Use a camera (phone camera) to confirm that the fire wall side cam is positioned correctly.
Are you getting CEL?

Hi and thanks for the replay today a mechanic pass by my house and everything was fine but the i haven't connect the 2 ground connectors and a sensor on top of the cam shaft and apparently this was causing the engine to rev up .i will finish to put back together all the accessories and cover and do a drive test
