Hello all,

I have what seems to be a unique problem I was hoping to get some feedback on. Like many others, I previously had an issue with rain leaking into the right passenger floor mat of my 2000 RX300. This was last winter, and after reading posts I opened the moonroof and sprayed compressed air into the drainage holes. Problem was solved. I then noticed a few months later my moonroof won't open. It makes a revving noise when the "slide open" button is pressed but it doesn't move. This wouldn't be a big deal but now puddles have been forming again after it rains and I need to open the moonroof to clean the drains again.

I'm getting ready to sell this car and would like this problem fixed before hand so the new owner doesn't have to deal with it. It runs well otherwise so would really like to take care of this.

Is there anyway to open the moonroof manually? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no easy way to access this area. One would have to remove the headliner and drop the drain pan.

But if all you want is to clear the drains then you can use a shop vac on the drains as they exit the underside of the vehicle. If needed you can also push a length of weed eater line or speedometer cable up the same drain line to knock the crud loose.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think there was going to be a quick fix but wanted to throw it out there. I was tempted to spray some wd40 on the sunroof tracks and give a few good shoves but I can see that causing a much bigger problem. I'll do research to see how to access the drain tube from underneath.

not sure exactly where the tubes exit but i would first check the far outer kick panel area and find the tubes on each front drain. you will likely find it clogged at that point. you can then do what it takes to unclog even if you have to cut out the clog and splice in a small piece of tubing.
