Default Am I crazy to prefer the RX 300 over a new RX 350 ?

Gang

Am I the only one that like the " 1st Generation RX " more than
all the newer generation RX's ?

I actually own an RX 330 as well and I could have bought
A brand new RX but we actually wanted the RX300

It took me 5 months to find this clean 1 owner 01 W/38K
We have no regrets and love the car .

Happy Motoring !

Very nice pictures.

You need to share 'why you like first gen over the second gen'

I guess I am just old school and "old "

The new RX has too many creases and the older RX is just more
Classic looking in my opinion

I also was looking at the '05 RX, but when I found mine RX300 '03 for 4000$, I was reluctant to pay 9000$ for nearly the same car. My one is in excellent condition, and I do not regret getting it. The only drawback is the fuel consumption, as the car is driven mostly by the wife to school and back, in traffic and at short distances. The price of fuel here is well over the price in USA. But anyway, the car is perfect for the purpose I got it.
And yesterday I had the chance to drive it in snow, and was surprised by the handling.

My wife opted for a 2010 MDX to replace her 99 RX which she absolutely loved. A 95 year old man got "confused" and t-boned and totaled her parked car. The newer RX was noticeably more cramped with a harsher ride. She had a strong bias in favor of Lexus going into it but, in her opinion, the MDX is a much better looking, better driving and more comfortable vehicle.

Most of the stuff is subjective but here goes:

I prefer the shape of the first gen.
I prefer the interior space of the first gen.
I like the lack of chrome-like accenting in the earlier model and dislike the changes like tail light that happened in the later models of first gen.
I dislike the turning radius of early first gen.
I dislike the smaller fuel tank of early models.
I dislike the noise from the spoils but like the looks.

I dislike the cheaper plastic feel of the 2nd gen .. granted inside looks better.
I dislike the oversized 'L' emblem in the steering wheel.
I dislike the quietness of the 2nd gen. Totally isolated from the outside.
I like the transmission gearing of 2nd gen.

RX is a very popular and common vehicle on the road. I wish it was bit unique, but that is the down side of being a popular vehicle.

The list is longer, but I think the above will cause enough ripples in the lake.

Remember these are my personal opinion and not intended to hurt anyones feelings.

I personally never got use to the new Lexus spinal grill

I also have the RX 330 and also love the 2nd generation
Look. The new Lexus have many creases in the body
And might appeal to the newer buyers and just not me

I got a loaner new Lexus RX last time I had the RX300 in for service at the dealer and it was just too big. it's wider and longer than the 1st gen. It's nearly the size of my wife's MDX. I'd never get 2 vehicles that big in the garage....I did like all the gizmos, Bluetooth phone, backup camera etc...of the new one though.

It looks like the new NX line is almost the size of the original rx....

Last year I drove a friends RX350 from Phoenix to Portland ~1300 miles in 3 days. It was a nice roadtrip car for high speed driving on long hauls. It was quieter and smoother than the RX300 of course and the turning radius was wonderful. It felt like my MR2 in a parking lot. I don't care about the "info-tainment features" and I can't for the life of me figure out how the push-button starter is an improvement over the old key. In general I think the car has gotten bigger, more complicated and more expensive but not better. At the end of the trip I was glad to get back in my 99 RX.
Styling is such a matter of personal choice its hard to draw any conclusions there but I still like the original design the best.

There is no question the 1st generation RX have some quirks
Like bad gas miledge , senors that go bad , servo motors issue
Low turning radius but for sheer balance in terms of size , power
And built quality , I really don't think any other crossover has it beat

I would have to say that after a year a little over 2 months of ownership of my 99 rx300; I do like the vehicle; I just dont like the lousy fuel mileage; and to me; the turning radius when trying to go around tight corners stinks; and Im sure there are other quirks that i cant think of at the moment; but; i would have to say for the most part I like my rx.

I agree, I prefer the RX300. I do like the look of the second gen, but it seemed to me that a bit of cabin space was sacrificed, so I still prefer the first gen.

I HATE the 2016 styling. I think they all look absolutely hideous. It's like some Transformers fan was designing the Decepticon vehicles for a new movie. Although, there is one of the truck models in white that looks like it has a Snidely Whiplash mustache. It always makes me laugh when I see it.
