I just purchased a 2002 RX300 for my daughter and it only came with one master key (luckily) but no valet/card key or key code metal tag. I noticed on the invoices from the dealer that they list the vehicle with a stock number and its a 5 digit code starting with 4xxxx. Could they be using the key code for this? If not, can I go to a Lexus dealer and get my key code from them based on my VIN? I can show that I'm the registered owner of the car if necessary.

I'm just trying to get a new key made.

Welcome to CL.

Dealer should be able to get that for you, and as you mentioned proof of ownership would help.

When you go there, ask for service history too.

Why not just hand them your key and have a duplicate made?

Dealer wanted $288 for a spare key, just trying to go thru a third party to save $100.

Can some one verify that you have a master key?

Folks here mention that with master key the red blinky security light goes off. [I have not tried the valet key to confirm that with valet key the blinky remains on].

If you have the master key then follow the process listed in this forum on how to program a key from master key. This would be the least expensive way.
