Hey guys, I just got my RX 300 2 wd 2001, it's averaging about 16 or 16.5 mpg, how do I increase this? I'd say so far, it's 50/50 with freeway and regular city miles. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to increase this? It has 72k on it and I first filled it up with regular unleaded. Is that okay? Let me know, Thanks in advance.

I have found that the computer is way off, since day one, and when I figure the mpg around town I get 16.5 and on the road trips we have averaged 20.8Seems many trust the computer, but filling the tank and on the next fill up noting the mileage difference divided by the gallons is the only accurate way.

Lexmex,

Yes, I am running Michelin cross terrain with 235/70/16.

Amiricon,

I clean the air filter every 3 months. And I always look at the MPG info while I drive. That way, I learn how to ease my leg on gas. Try that and you might get better MPG.

I must post that also I am in California where the gas sucks, when I fill up in Nevada or elsewhere the mileage seems to go up about 2 mpg...That is due to our smog formula....

On a recent trip from Socal to Hearst Castle, averaged 24 mpg at a steady 75mph and sometimes up to 80.

18.4 overall average includes city/highway.

I have never tracked them separately since buying the car.

Interesting. 92 octane (R+M)/2 or RON (European)?

19/22 is what listed on the window, so I don't know how some of us get more than 22 on highway. That is impossible unless yours are modded.

I averaged 20 to 21 MPG around town and 80% highway. Sold it to my son who got about 18 to 19. He sold it to my manager who complained about gas milage he was getting 17 It is all in how you drive.
