air filters need replacement?
I hear the cabin filter gets dirty (will check mine when i fix my servo), but at 150k i believe i still have the factory engine air filter and it looks surprisingly clean. it has maybe yellowed a little, but does not look black or have any dark sections like i would have expected (i actually just changed the air filter on my lawnmower and it was noticeably black and full of contaminants). even after banging it on the ground i couldn't see anything come out, but took a leaf blower to it just to be sure. do i still need to change it and how often do these need to be replaced?
thanks.
thanks.

I can't seem to bring up my copy of the maintenance schedule. Lexus likes to change them at prescribed intervals, even if they don't look dirty. I don't know if there's dirt we can't see, or if they're just trying to sell more filters. I probably don't change them often enough. I only put about 2000 miles a year on one RX and about 5000 miles a year on the other, but I still should change them more than I do. Same with the cabin air filter, probably

yeah they're supposed to be changed or at least inspected, but mine looks clean. like you said, i don't know if there's something i can't see or if there's possibly something else going on. i would expect it to look at least a little dirty after having never changed it. what are other peoples' experiences?
