Installing auto-dimming rear view mirror
Hello,
I've recently purchased a 2000 RX300 with the Limited Package. According to the Lexus web site, the only difference between the Premium Package and the Limited Package on this year's model is the inclusion of the auto-dimming mirrors in the Premium Package. I am wondering if the wires for this feature are actually run throughout the vehicle for both versions and the only difference is the installation of the mirrors themselves. ie. if I purchased the interior mirror from a vehicle with the Premium Package, would I be able to install it in my RX300 with the Limited Package?
Your help is greatly appreciated!! I've found this site to be an invaluable resource on RX300 information.
Thanks!

jfleming, if you want to check to see whether or not your RX has the connector for the mirror, you'll need to check behind your dome light area where your sunglass holder and sunroof button are all together.
To get it off you'll need to open your sunglass holder and slightly fold back the felt, to expose a screw, just enough to unscrew it (phillips head). There are two screws; just feel the felt and you'll notice two buldges where the screws are.
Once you get access behind the map light/sunglass holder area you'll be looking for a small orange wiring harness. I've attached a picture of the male end of the plug that is on the mirror itself, that should help you know what the plug looks like. If you do have the wiring harness, it will not be difficult to locate.
If you do have the wiring harness, you might consider going for the compass/mirror instead of just the auto-dimming mirror. I recently changed my auto-dimming mirror for the compass/mirror on my 2000 RX.
Let me know what you find out.
