RX 300 looks better than RX 330
#16
As I said before in another thread the 330 is clearly an evolution of the 300 and you can see the family resemblance. I often have to do a double-take when I see a 300 coming because it looks so much like a 330. So it isn't THAT different.
The taillights do take some getting use to. I don't overly like the rear quarter view due to the lights but the view of them straight from the back is very interesting and modern. Quite aggressive looking.
The only thing I'd change...and I'm looking at the issue now, is the 330's snout. I'd like to see a small tasteful spoiler on it to make the front a bit more sporty looking, like the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Harrier Aero Tourer package.
Another thing I'd like to see is FATTER but not bigger tires and wheels. I have the 17s and chunkier 17s would look nice and sporty. The current tires look very, err, "standard" or "family car-like". I'm not interested in "bigger" because, sadly, the bigger the wheel, the more costly the tires and it's not a linear relationship...

As a 300 owner, I love the 330. I was at the Lexus event in VA last weekend and drove the 330 3 times. They actually had 7 330's for driving. So I was able to drive one with the performance package compared to one that didn't.
I couldn't believe how they handled compared to mine.
Plus I liked all the new goodies inside too.
I think the 330 has great style and curves, but I am just as happy with my Silversport and it still turns heads on occasion.

I have a 2003 RX 300 and I really like both designs. The RX330 is a sportier look but the back does take some getting use to. I really dislike the higher light position and I think the spoiler on the 330 should be colored coded instead of black.

preface: from a RX300 owner,
The only thing I don't like about the 330 is the rear sloping glass. Being from the snowbelt i wonder how hard it will be to keep it clear. My 300 is no problem now, I hardly have to use the rear wiper. I don't care at all for the taillights either. Otherwise I'm sure it is a better overall vehicle with all the new goodies. The question remains however if I move into a 330 when the lease is up or move over to an FX. The one thing i'm tired of hearing is the soccer mom notion with the 300.

Anyways, I CURRENTLY own an SC300 and a GS300, and I don't like the new looks of the RX (well, just the rear). I like all the amenities of the RX330 (rear view camera, new headlights, etc.), but not the rear. I never really liked the look of the RX300 (to minivanish), but I like it better than the new RX330. But it doesn't matter too much about the looks i guess, b/c the RX helped bring Lexus up in the world (they are all over the freakin place)

I just took my 330 in for its 1000 mile checkup. Got a 2002 RX300 w/14,000 miles on it for a rental. It was white with tan cladding. Looked nice, but just not "me". I wasn't impressed with the interior. The 330 is a big upgrade there. The rental I had must have been a lemon or something. The ride was harsh and the engine had a lot of vibration. The 330 is a lot smoother. Again though, I chalk it up to something being wrong with my rental. It was the exact opposite of the descriptions I've read on here. I'd never been in a RX300 before.
It all really comes down to personal preference. I, for one, am glad they did the redesign though.

I came up behind an RX330 last night--only the second one I've seen on the road. It was a kinda pea green color--not attractive at all. Anyway, the rear styling is going to take a lot of getting used to. I don't understand why Lexus would make major styling changes in a vehicle that had been such a big success for them. A big step backward, imo.

getting use to the rx330
Well, all...i guess it takes awhile to get used to the 330 since it does have advantages as to being a bit larger and roomier inside. I guess I would get used to it........I just hope they don't change them too much more in about 6 years from now when I am ready to trade my 03 in for the newest model out.
Thats if people stop hitting my bumper and I would be able to afford it when the time comes!!!

RX330 VS RX300
Well,
After drivingby the billboard of the RX330 near my house, almost everyday, and previously siting in one at the dealer after dropping off my '02 RX300 in for service, I too have mixed reviews. I am gradually seeing more and more on the road, but still way below the number of 300 I see. The one I sat in at the dealer was that hideous metallic evergreen color and had the Nav package and a set of chrome aftermarker dealer add on 18 inch wheels. In all bringing the price of the package up to over 47k. Is that truely worth it.
I know as personal opinion and after driving some other companies SUV that is suppose to compete with the Lexus I say I would rather pay the money for the Lex.
On the other hand back to the comparisons of the now 2 generations of the the RX, the 330 is nice, I like it's size, I do not like the tail lights, too me looks like a Rendevoux wanna be. UGH. But I noticed in one of the tv spots running that the 330 does have the red lenses available. I think I would rather have the red lense instead of the clear lense, espcially on a dark color, clear lights just look to out of place. I of course love my 300, except for the transmission. I got a chance to drive a '03 ES300 with the same basic 5 speed tranny that is suppose to be similar to that of the 330. Man I loved driving that. Granted any autotranny that you leave in drive and just tool around the streets with is going to have it's own personality. But when I drove that ES I was using the stick much like I drive my alter ego vehicle manual tranny equiped, except I didn't have to push in the clutch. and I loved that feeling. you can shift at your own will with a click to either side. Then if you are getting on the freeway and need to pass the typical driver who can't get up with the flow of the california freeway. You can just shift and drive past them with a flick of the wrist.
There are things good and bad about both, and until Lexus combines alittle more of both maybe they will have the perfect Luxury SUV.

rear gaudy, center console "cheap"
I don't know but when I see a RX330 I think ricey. Ricey = things that people do that take away from the car. I dislike the rear and the interior fake metal seems like a step down from the real wood they use in the RX300. The only thing worse than the station wagon look of the RX300 is a RX330 which is a station wagon that is trying to look sporty. I would never put a spolier on my RX300, I mean, come on.
Mechanically I love it, but I would never buy one just based on how it looks. Toyota usually gives its cars a face left every 2-3 years so maybe they'll fix it then.
