I would suggest check the cigarette lighter or even the acc socket in the hatch area.
Reason I say check, because you need to make sure that for items the +12v is present when the ignition is on ACC and Run but must be switched off in Start.
If the cigarette lighter does not work for you, another location would be the fuse for radio or accessory.
Once you have the wire, I would suggest scrape off the insulation (do not break/cut the wire) and twist the new wire and solder it. Insulate with electrical tape. I do not like using electrical taps sold at auto stores. What ever you add should have its own fuse.

I'm trying to test out a device and see if it works with power source. Is there a way to get power source first before I proceed to scrape off the insulation? I'm trying to install something from the hatch area, but the car battery is too far to use for a power source. I also don't have another car to borrow its battery.

Exactly ... that is why I suggested to test before.
Simply plug any accessory -- phone charger etc. The socket should be live in some ignition switch combination and if it remains dead, check fuse. The socket is near the fuel filler, on the inside the hatch.
The safer way is to use an "add a fuse" or also called "add a circuit". It allows you to piggyback on one of the switched fuses in the fuse panel behind the coin cup. Many of the wires beyond the fuse panel are hair fine and can be overloaded very easily and burn out.

I was thinking about doing this, but I would I have order from eBay.
I think I will just remove the battery from my own car and work with my project in the back of the car trunk.
