It depends. In my case, I have CNG installed. Hence the warning light is always on when running on natural gas. Once you switch to petrol/gasoline, it disappears after restarting the car.
In your case, it would be better to have the vehicle checked for any pending codes. Do you experience anything unusual while driving on that condition ? (performance deteriorate, fuel consumption increase, etc)

That is the "check engine light" (CEL). Depends on what the problem is. Do you have access to a code reader? If not, take it to the dealer or a mechanic that has one and find out. Could be as trivial as a worn gas tank lid seal or as serious as an imminent engine self destruct!

Where I tell people to pull over is when you have a flashing check engine light. That could be something more serious where you can do damage. A busted ignition coil is one such error that will cause a flashing light.
Solid light you can generally drive to where you can get it checked out or as mentioned get a code reader. My fiancé uses it in her 4Runner and never worries again about that light.
