Default Car makes metal clanking noise on bumpy road & some freeway driving.

Like the title says... and the noise seems to be coming from the right/passenger side of the car. The steering of the car also appears not as tight as it should be and some play (not very serious but may help identify the issue). The suspension noise sounds like a metal to metal clank and occurs going on bumpy roads or sometimes on freeway driving (it also comes and goes so it's a bit hard to diagnose), also want to add that there is no change in driveability when this happens.. only noise. It's a 1999 rx300 fwd. Got it inspected and checked out fine.. pretty much everyone says the shocks are fine but a "discount tires"I took it to who wanted like $2000 to replace all four strutassemblies and swaybar kits (mainly labor charge).... I've read a few posts indicating that it could be the control arms or the swaybar links.. If it is the shocks would quick struts be the way to go? Thanks for the help guys.

You did not include number of miles. I am just going by age and most common problem which produces the above sound ...
Please have your RX's lower control arms re-examined.

Sorry if this is a noob question but is there a way to test if that is the issue without putting it up on a lift?

Not really. Even just a visual inspection is easier on a lifet with the suspension unloaded.

Guess i'll be going back to the indy to see what it is just haven't had the time. Could it be anything other then the control arms or the strut mounts? These seem like the most common issues with this cars suspension from what I've been reading. Relatively cheap and easy diy's as well I think. Strange thing... I drove this car over 100 miles today and had no noise issues. There is some strange steering wheel movement, kind of hard to describe but it seems like its overly tight (I turn and it almost flicks itself back to the forward position).. and also some play when driving straight. The steering style could just be due to my own familiarity with rwd cars and my rx is a fwd which I have not driven in a long time. Thanks again for the reponses.
