Recently I decided that I needed to sell my Audi A4 and get another car. The A4 was too small for me now since I am re-doing my condo and make daily trips to get crap at home depot. Also that car is stick and I recently screwed my left ankle up, so driving it is kinda painful.
Anyway, when I wrecked my ankle, my dad gave me his winter car to drive around, a 1999 Lexus RX300 with 78K miles. He needs a new car this fall anyway, so I told him I would think about buying the old Lexus off him instead of him getting taken by the dealership on trade in.
Then I find this site, and see that a few people have transmission problem with their RX's. This scares me. Anyone have 100K+ miles on their RX? I searched around a bit and didn't see anyone with over 100K miles.
The car is in good shape and has been serviced at the dealership every 15K for all the service intervals, recently the 75K service and new front brakes. I know the car needs a timing belt at 90K, but I have an independant mechanic who will do that for me for less then half the cost (800 bucks) the dealership quoted me.
Anything else I should be worried about? I don't mind the rattles, I just want this thing to run for a while until I can save up for something sporty. I don't drive more then 10K a year either. Even less when I get a second car. Basically I want to drive it for another 4-5 years as a semi daily driver/winter beater.
Anyway, that was much more long winded then I intended, but any advice would be appreciated.

There is one thing that was a very hottly debated topic here...AND I DON'T mean to bring it up again, just offering my advice. How often was the oil changed? If it was every 3-5K you are fine, but if it was longer I'd be concerned about the potential "sludge" issue that allegedly plagued some vehicles that did not adhere to a "reasonable" oil change maintenance schedule. Other than that I'd say go for it.
