Yet another transmission issue
Hello everyone. Found the forum doing a search for trans info on my 99 rx300 awd. I’ve owned her for about four months. I’ve been meaning to change the fluid and filter which am kicking myself for not doing it. Driving home from work yesterday went to shift into second gear and felt thumping and had no drive. Put in low and it drove. So went slow a few miles to home. Now I have no forward or reverse at all. When I put it into gear I hear a high pitched whine but it doesn’t do when in neautral or park. From search it seems this could be the pump sucking air ? Would it be worth replacing filter as maybe it’s clogged and add new fluid? When I bought it if it was cold it wouldn’t want to shift to high gear until it was warm. So I just let it idle for a few minutes before driving and this solved the problem. 172,000 miles. No clue on service history. Got it from auction. Luckily I only have $1400 into it. So if I parted it out or sold as is it wouldn’t be a huge deal. But if I can fix it somehow it would be nice as I do like it. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Change the fluid and try flush the system best you can. There is a chance that the blocking heating issue caused the computer to drive in these modes and not the transmission you still maybe be in for a chance.
Drop the pan throw the filter unless a wire mesh filter then rince that thing 100 x over in degreaser till sparkling.
Other wise if paper need a new one.
Depending how much metal is in your pan will determine the life of your transmission.
If it looks like you struck gold you didn't.
I am on my 3rd transmission and latest is complete rebuild as new, I saved mine many times but had 2 big woes also.

Well just finished the job and no luck. No movement in forward in any gear and no movement in reverse. I’m guessing all those metal chunks are parts of the gears. Still have the high purged whine also. Fluid is correct level as well. With foot off the brake if I go from drive to reverse it makes a effort to move but more like a jump and faster start.
