Default changed atf/filter now no reverse

Hello,
I apologize in advance if this thread has been answered previously. But I haven't found an identical set of circumstances as mine.
My 01 RX 300 is a rescue in every sense of the word. Any way I purchased it last Feb when I needed a care asap. 178 K.
Lately I noticed if I let off of the gas between the 2 ed to 3 ed a clunk could be felt. I checked the fluid and it was nasty. Burnt/blackish smell and color. The three magnets looked like porcupines and silver residue everywhere.
I dropped the pan and changed the filter. replaced with almost 4 quarts of Multi Make fluid/ When I finished it shifted nice but when I put it in reverse it engaged about 1100 rpm with w clank and backed up.
This morning it won't back up at all and up shifting is pathetic.
How could all of this happen over changing the filter and 4 quarts of fluid?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Bill

Default Sign of future transmission failure?

Hello all,

So about once every couple of months when trying to put my 2001 RX 300 into reverse it gets what I would call “stuck”. The vehicle will not move when pressing gas, it then will all of a sudden jolt backwards at a rapid speed like the gear pops into place after reving the engine at pretty high rpms. The transmission has never really had smooth transition between gears when in drive so Im not sure if this all ties in together to the possibility of an early transmission failure. The vehicle has about 90k on it and has had a few transmission fluid and filter changes. Is the reverse issue indicative of a future tranny failure?

No answer means no one can tell. I personally had no transmission issue and then there are folks who had issue right after servicing.

So nobody has had a weird reverse issue that causes the vehicle to not move when you depress the gas?

ATF being a super detergent, the new fluid could've washed off some stuck crud in the tranny system and then proceeded to clump up to block the narrow passages inside. Kinda like arteries clogging up with cholesterol. Now fluids can't get into the tranny from the pan.

Another common anecdote is that the tranny has gotten used to the dirty fluid and needed the suspended shavings/metal to engage gears correctly. With the fluid change, the gears now slip instead and you have your new host of problems.

Of course these are just guesses, best bet is to visit a tranny shop.

Is there any transmission additive
that may slow down wear and tear that yall would recommend?
