Going to drain tranny fluid. Just want to be 100% sure
2001 rx300 fwd 3.0l
Just want to make sure, I would have posted in the diy thread but this forum seems to be a little dead now a days.
In the diy thread it says to drain the tranny pan and the "transfer case", but I think lexmx posted pics and referred to it as the "front differential". ImI assuming lex is correct, but just to make sure, since mine is fwd i do infact drain the tranny and front differential, (the plug that is a 10mm allen key correct?
And is this the correct armsoil type to use?

And filter
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000CAVR0A/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522481715&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=2001+lexus+rx300+transmission+filter&dpPl=1&dpID=41ANENYEN1L&ref=plSrch
I want to so a thorough job so these are the steps i plan to take
1. Drain tranny and diff. plug.
2. Drop pan, change filter, clean pan, replace gasket, tighten any lose bolts hand tight. put pan back on.
3. Replace fluid with armsoil.
4. Turn car on let sit for 5 mins or so, go through all gears down then up.
5. Go for 30min drive.
6. Go through gears again, let sit a few mins, check level.
7. Drain one more time tranny and diff, refill repeat step 4.
8. Drive car for a month, replace filter again.
I was hoping this would take care of it for pretty much the rest of the time i have the car, i was thinking about changing the filter twice just to help clean out any lose contamination.
And how many qts do you think it would take for tranny and diff.
Let me know what you think.

You have a FWD so you only have the front transmission case. Remove the drain bolt and 3.5 to 3.75 qts should come out. Measure how much comes out and refill at the tranny dip stick tube. I know nothing about Amsoil as I have only used the standard Toyota type T-IV ATF.
See here for drain bolt location.

No, you have only one drain plug in pan. Also, you have ATF filter. That said, you drain ATF, drop pan, replace filter, gasket, then refill. For front wheel drive only, differential is integrated into transmission, so no need to worry about that. I'd run bottle of Transtune through transmission for about 500 miles, before ATF change. Will clean all passages. Thereafter, drain/fill every about 20 000 miles. 30. Up to you. Starts jerking - drain/fill.
