Default Is my RX "Trade-in-able" despite its age?

Hey guys, my 2000 RX has been around the blocks, about 230K miles but still very shiny and interior is gently used, still runs good. Now days I don't drive it often, may be drive it several times a month to make sure it still runs. Now that I am interested in the RX350 I am considering selling, or just keep it few more years for my kid for driver ed. KBB trade-in value for the car's condition range $1242 to $2529. Will Lexus dealer accept my car despite its age and high mileage? If they do, I suspect they'll try to low ball me and give me a low trade in value. What was your experience in trading in an older car at a Lexus dealership?
Thanks.

expect a lowball offer, they will likely take it and just put it up at auction to make more off it. With the small residual value left, you would just get more value by holding it for your kid. We keep receiving trade-in incentives from Lexus to get some "credit" for our first gen RX towards a new purchase. It would barely cover the tax and tags.

Expect 500 - 750. With that little an amount the tax savings on trade in will be negligible, [You pay sales tax on price - trade-in]. You can do lot better by selling it privately.

Depends what you are trading it in on. On a new RX350, you should get a decent trade/discount (maybe $2000-$2500) but you're always in a better buying position if you don't have a trade. We keep our '99 as a spare car for hauling and for when the kids fly into town.

They can give you anything you want and build it into the price of the new car. They only way to know what you're actually getting is to negotiate your best deal without the trade and then throw it in at the end.

I've decided to keep her. Will let my kid use it when she is ready to drive.

I think that's a good idea. It's worth much more as a known-history vehicle for your family than you could ever get out of it as a trade-in, or even selling it privately. I'll face the same thing when my daughter gets a newer car of her own one of these days!
