Default RX300 Remove & Replace OEM Subwoofer questions - Solved

Hello,

I want to replace the buzzing OEM subwoofer in my 2001 RX300 AWD with a good used one. I am trying to understand the steps and pitfalls to avoid before starting. From what I read in other posts, the OEM sub doesn't just slide out from under the front passenger seat after removing the four 10mm mounting bracket bolts.

Has anyone here ever done this?

Thank you.

Hello again,

I figured this out. The subwoofer bolts are all accessible by moving the front passenger seat all the way to the front to access the rear subwoofer mounting bolts and moving the front passenger seat all the way to the rear to access the front subwoofer mounting bolts. The subwoofer mounting bolts all have a 10mm bolt head.

Simply removing the subwoofer mounting bolts does not allow the subwoofer to slide out because the left and right sides of the subwoofer are under the seat tracks and wider than the seat tracks. The front passenger seat has to be unbolted from the body/floor pan to get the subwoofer out. The front passenger seat does not have to be removed from the vehicle or electrically disconnected to remove and replace the subwoofer. With the front passenger seat airbag, I really did not want to electrically disconnect that seat if I did not have to for this job.

I removed the four front passenger seat to body bolts which allowed the seat and seat tracks to be tilted forwards and backwards enough to get the job done. The front passenger seat to body bolts all have a 14mm bolt head.

I did not see any torque specs in the torque specs listings for the subwoofer mounting bolts so I snugged them down to what I felt by hand was about how they were before. I torqued the four front passenger seat to body bolts to factory specs.

So did you replace the sub or did tightening the bolts solve the problem?

I replaced the sub. The bolts were not loose.

I don't see anything wrong with the speaker cone or foam cone surround on the sub I took out. This has seemed to take care of the issue.
