2003 RX300. My coolant reservoir and rad were dry (!). I had timing belt and water pump done recently. Connected???
I see no sign of leak, i changed rad cap, and will monitor levels.
I filled with just under 2 litres (.5 US gallon)in rad and reservoir with OEM brand 50/50 for Lexus/Toyota from Canadian Tire.
It is an ethylene-glycol with 'HOAT technology'.
Now researching and finding either mixing red and 50/50 pink is fine, or i have just given my RX the cancer.
Amazing there are such polar opposite views on the subject.
I see a TSB from 2002 that states pink and red are compatible, but maybe formulas have changed since then, and i see one thread that states a problem with water pump/sealant...
Anyway, long story short:
Am i ok, or should i do an immediate coolant flush and put in the Red?

If you prepped the red to the proper dilution before topping off your existing OEM coolant, you should be fine. Likely they didn't top off your system enough when they swapped out the water pump. If you are still in doubt, pour some of your OEM branded coolant and Toyota red in a small jar, mixed to the same dilutions you would in your car...watch it in 24 hours for any precipitates. Any precipitates found, you will definitely need to flush immediately and refill with a single coolant.

thanks for the reply. that is a very scientific approach!
i did discover that the pump is leaking, though. so bad seal, bad pump, or bad mechanic, i guess.
it was done at the Toyota dealership, so they will have to make amends, and i will have them flush the system at the same time.

I highly doubt mixing them is an issue. the pink and red Toyota coolants are both primarily Ethylene Glycol, so the small amount of other additives in the coolants are not likely to interact negatively with each other.
