Specific directions for oi pan removal/replacement?
(Sorry about the title typo. It's oil pan, of course!) I've used the search function and looked in the DIY's, but I can't find start-to-finish directions for removing and replacing/resealing the oil pan. I found a couple of links with tips, but nothing covering the whole procedure. Maybe it's right there and I'm just missing it. I have the Haynes and Chilton manuals, but the DIY's on here are always so clear and detailed. Am I missing something?

I cant even edit the Thread title [only super mods can), but we understand what you are asking.
The process is pretty intuitive. See if you have access to all the bolts [there may be 2 nuts]. Also make sure the pan can come down. [I have not dropped the oil pan in RX, but for SC it was a royal pain as the pan could not be brought down]. Most likely the pan has FIPG [form in place gasket and you will have to break it without deforming the pan. Lexus/Toyota has a special tool but it can be dropped by blunt chisel/screw driver ,,,, just dont jam it in, as it will bend the pan. Next will the reassembly and you will need the pan gasket or FIPG. Throughly clean the two surfaces and they need to be free of oil if you plan to use FIPG. [for sc, the pan gasket I got did not fit and i had to use FIPG]. Within few minutes put the pan back and then let the gasket form overnight [do not fill oil before that]. I dont have the torque handy, but my best recollection is 19LB-INCH (not feet). Please confirm.
Is your pan deformed or the gasket is leaking. I would clean and reverify as the leak can come from above and front.

The factory uses FIPG, A painters knife/putty knife comes in handy to slip between the oil pan to help break up the bond. If you don't have Toyota FIPG, other very good substitutes is Honda bond, Subaru Fuji bond, and Permatex Right Stuff gray. Be sure to clean all surfaces before applying, remove all previous residue with as razor, scotchbrite pad, or 3m roloc gasket removal discs..and wipe down with brake cleaner and a rag to remove all oils.

Thanks, guys. The car is going in tomorrow to try to determine a leak source. I found one -- there was no washer/gasket in place for the front VVT filter, so I installed one and I don't see any more dripping from there, but it's still wet in what seems to be the oil pan area. Drain plug is dry.
