Rear Door latch sticks in up position
Hi,
I have a 2000 RX300 and the rear door latch sticks in the up position. When the handle/latch is squeezed it goes up and the back door/hatchback opens without any problems. When I close the rear door, it will not latch until I physically move the rear door latch down. It gets stuck up the up position. Once I move it down, the door closes as normal.
Does anyone know the cause of this? Can you recommend how to fix this?
Thanks,
Rob

Are you saying the lever/pedal ... release mechanism does not return to normal position? There is a spring that should push it back. Some members has reported that they have found rust in the spring.

Hi Salim,
Yes, the rear release mechanism does not return. Is there a way to check if the spring is rusted (e.g. what to take apart to check it). If the spring is rusted, is it replaceable?
Thanks,

I think the next step would be to open up the release and then see if something is broken/rusted/stuck. You just have to pull off the bottom cover [held by snaps] and then un-assemble the release.
You can look up for genuine parts by visiting on line store like Lexus of South Atlanta Parts.
You can search for used parts from salvage yards.
