Default 2000 RX300 Key Fob Programming?

Is there a known good guide to programming a replacement key fob for the 2000 RX300? I've tried a couple of instructions, so far unable to get either of them to work. Any suggestions?

Please look through our DIY thread.

Look for the one that has been verified again and again.

Salim, thanks for your reply. I looked through the RX300 1st gen DIY thread, couldn't find anything on key fob programming. Do you know the name of the author or where else to look? Thanks.

Please do me a favor by adding the above link to the DIY thread after you have successfully programed your key.

Salim, thanks for the link. Unfortunately it wouldn't go into programming mode. I tried it several times (printed and reread the instructions to make sure I was doing it exactly as documented).

You need to have 'master key' as the source key. Is your current key a master key?

I have sometimes had this issue before with used electronic "innards" I have purchased and placed in a different key. I thought I was doing something wrong, but each of those times it turned out to be bad electronics. The dealer couldn't get them to program, either. Someone sold me some junk! Maybe the electronics in your additional key aren't working correctly? Just a thought.

I'm not sure which is the master. I have used both keys that have the key fob remote and also the key without the key fob. These are known to be the originals.

Please read through the sticky threads to develop understanding about the key. For first gen the remote was always a part of the key. The valet Key has a grey shell and the original master had a black shell. If the keys were replaced before, they may not be master keys. Without a master key any duplicates you get will never accept programming. If you have deep pockets, please check with the dealership.

Salim is right. However, if you are friendly with your dealer, they may program it or try to program it without charging you. I lucked out that way; unfortunately, the key was not programmable, but it they didn't charge me to try.
