Default Transmission problem

Re 2002 Rx 300 transmission.
My car does not stay in over drive all the time.I could be on the highway in over drive and it suddenly goes off.Some times if I stop the car and turn it off then restart it it will work fine for awhile .Anyone have any answers?

There could a reason by which the ECU puts the transmission in limp mode and that is accompanied by check engine light. It can be that your warning light has popped and you dont see it litup. Please have the obdII read.

The O/D button on the shift is notorious for being fidgety.
