Same issue of warm idling was rough while cold idling was fine. Codes included "Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire detected".
Problem was Variable Valve Timing solenoid.

Yup, it doesn't activate the solenoids until the coolant temperature passes a certain value. Once it activates them, it increases the cam overlap and isn't able to change it back, causing the poor idle. The solenoids activate somewhere around 2200rpm. If you are below the coolant temp threshold or you don't pass the rpm threshold, it will idle fine. This is why when I was diagnosing this issue it took me a while. I would try something, cruise around my neighborhood for a good while and felt satisfied it was solved until going on a higher speed drive.,What really happened is that I never passed the rpm to activate the solenoids cruising the neighborhood. I eventually confirmed my suspicion of what the issue was by plugging off the coolant temp sensor and driving around for a couple days and the idle never went bad.
My vehicle (JDM Harrier) never threw any codes for the issue though. In fact, I have a random misfire sometimes when cold and that doesn't trigger a code either.
