Question squeeky belt when the car starts

Thank you to everyone who helped in my research on our CPO 01 RX300 $28K w 34K miles. Wife loves it.

One week after delivery, braked started grinding, I researched TSB and told service rep, and he replaced rotors and brakes, no charge.

We now have squeeky belt when the car starts. The squeek goes away after the car warms up in about 1/2 hour. Service rep says RX engines are noisy.

My Honda mechanic says tighen the belt, as the belt is slipping when it is cold.

I hope the squeek is a belt and not a bearing?

Any thoughts or previous experience on how to rid the car of squeek?

I have had a squeaky belt before on my RX. Still, on occasion it will let out a short squeak when I crank it up, but it never lasts more than a second or two. Annoying to have it happen, yes, but I will have it looked at only if it gets worse. Your situation, however, sounds like it needs to be looked at and may just be an issue with the belt. I did have a squeaky belt, constant, before and the dealer replaced it.

On a similar side note, my parents have a '99 LS400 that has a similar squeaky sound to by RX, sometimes, when it is first started and quickly goes away (few seconds).

I will tell you what happens when we have it looked at in a few days. As we "just bought the used car" with CPO I hope Lexus will repair the sound. Very annoying to my wife as she just bought the car.

Lexus also repaired the brakes under TSB when they started grinding, so the good will is there. It is incredible the local repair shop has a "night shift" to work on the cars from 5pm until 12pm.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Question Squeaky steering wheel

I have a squeaky steering wheel and shrill breaks but only as I take the car out of the garage. After that, it's fine. Something Lexus will/can fix?

I have the same problem as LexRx with my '99. However it only seems to happen on rainy days. It goes away after a few secs. Id get the belt checked out again if not replaced if its sqealing for 1/2 like you said. Its not thats exp if the dealer wont replace it for free.

My steering wheel used to make a squeek when I turn it from side to side. It was like a bird chirping!
I braught it to the dealer and they said they greased up the steering column. Dunno where it was because the rep said thats all the tech told him. I didnt inquire further because it was fixed. It was all done free of charge.

Squeeky belt

The belts were replaced under warrantee, as we had the car for less than a month. The belts were "glazed".

I was surprised that 35K miles would do this, although the car does seem to generate a lot of heat in the engine bay.

Very satisfied with CPO vehicle, and product.
