ok so i took off throttle body. cleaned it out, replaced throttle position sensor. left it for a few days with batt disconnected and got back to it. now it runs great. cel is still on and the 02 sensor codes are still there, but all the other codes are gone. car runs super super rich. i went 65 miles and used up almost 1/2 a tank of gas

This will overwork your cats and that can be expensive fix along with the $$ going out of the tail pipe.

so i replaced cats and it ran worse than before. now it bogs down like crazy. CEL flashes when i step on the gas. auto parts stores are closed so i can't get the codes off of it. with the new cats on, there's a terrible burning smell now

it will not take off for at least 5 seconds, and will rev really high in order to just get to 20 mph. when changing gears it revs all the way to 3500 rpms

Hi dakiwi13,
To get thru this you need a proper scanner that can read codes and supply you with live data.

That doesn't sound good. Since you replaced the 'Cats' did you plug the AFR/sensor back in and are the wire(s) routed correctly? Did you verify that the rest of the exhaust system is not plugged up? I had an exhaust leak and used a shop vac to pressurized the system. I attached the shop vac to the tail pipe by taping the hose with duct tape. I then turned it on. It only took less than 10 seconds to find the leak. How did it go from running great after the last repair to running like crap again????

Hi had the almost the same nightmare your having - changing all the parts you did.
I found out you need to have a Code Reader that can read engine live data like STFT and LTFT on both banks
You can see which one has a issue or both.
Then like others said I replace the O2 or Air Ratio sensors in the Pipes -
I had one Fake one that cause issues and a Second one that was New was Bad.
Just because it is brand new does not Guarantee it is good.
Good Luck
