I found out you need to have a Code Reader that can read engine live data like STFT and LTFT on both banks
You can see which one has a issue or both.

Then like others said I replace the O2 or Air Ratio sensors in the Pipes -
I had one Fake one that cause issues and a Second one that was New was Bad.
Just because it is brand new does not Guarantee it is good.
Good Luck
i'm thinking the o2 sensors went bad even after putting new ones on since they were there for a few months before i replaced the cats. which sensors belong to which position? i'm going to replace them all at one time to be safe. how many total are there? i've read 3 and also 4. so i don't know how many total

Hi dakiwi13, Saying it one more time and I leave it alone I promise. lol

You need a scanner with live data to get thru this or you are wasting your time and money.

PS- Buy your own and keep it with you at all times- best money $ you ever spent.

+1 on this ^^

If it is indeed a failed(failing) AF sensor(s), please get an OEM/Denso genuine part.
There are a lot of FAKE Denso’s out there.

BTW, there are 2 AF sensors.
One on each bank located at the exhaust manifold.
And 1 O2 sensor located before the main CAT (underneath the driver seat under carraige)

If you have an Android phone or tablet go to Google Play Store and buy Torque Pro, then go to Amazon and buy a Bluetooth OBDII adapter. Learn how to use the software. The total cost should be under $20.

I use this setup on my SC400. The SC throws a fault Throttle Position Sensor about every 10,000 miles or so; I have to coast to the side of the road (5 mph limit) to reset the code, then I'm good for a long time. Had the TPS replaced, but it still comes back sporadically. With the wireless OBDII always installed, I start Torque Pro and do the reset, then good to go.

I suspect the caps in the ECU are failing, but don't know who can repair the ECU properly.

You're driving a 20yr old car. "They get old and brake"... You can't expect the same reliability of a 3yr car..

This happened to me too!

I bought a fake Denso Air/Fuel sensor on ebay in a OEM Toyota box.

Car ran like crap and thew Check Engine Light immediately- bought an genuine Denso at autoparts store and problem fixed.

Yes Like I said Earlier exact same with me - I got Two Fakes from Two Different Sellers -

Note ; they both refunded money once I said were fakes - no questions asked.

Once Replaced with real ones from Local Auto Parts Store -

Started Car with Code Reader reading live data from STFT and LTFT - All Fixed

I knew right away from Data Seen
