Liftgate won't lock by remote or central door lock button
2002 RX300 130k miles
Symptom: The liftgate can be unlocked by using the keyfob remote (by pressing unlock twice) but cannot be locked by the keyfob remote (by pressing lock button). Again the liftgate can be unlocked by the central door lock/unlock button on the driver side door or passenger door, but cannot be locked by either central door lock control. I can only lock the liftgate via the key in the key cylinder of the liftgate.
Fixes: I thought it was simply the liftgate actuator but it turned out not being the case. The voltage being sent to the actuator to perform the Locking function is too low to engage the motor in the actuator. So the upstream component is the Body Control Module (located behind the driver side kick panel). After I got a replacement (used) from ebay and the locking function works flawlessly. I also need to program both of my existing keyfob to work with this BCM since. Thanks for the instruction from member "mailrail" of this forum. I found the instruction of programming the keys into the BCM here.
thanks again for all the insights and helps from all members of this forum, so I can avoid being ripped off by the dealership.
