RX300 Engine Splash Shield lower outer bolt plastic screw retainers
Hello,
The two outer lower screws that hold the engine splash cover in place screw into plastic screw retainers in the frame. Has anyone here ever replaced those plastic screw retainers?
Thank you.
Howard

You have few options ... help parts at the auto parts store. Get an assortment pack and you can look for the best fit.
My preferred solution is to visit/call you local lexus parts and they will share/show/look and bring up an image of all the parts related to the splash shield. Most of the retainers are folded (clips). It will cost you more, but still cheaper than shipping and handling. One of the issues I have with retaining screws is that they are of different size even on the same splash shield. Oversize will fit (with permanent change) and an undersize will fall (potentially ending with a flat tire .. if not yours then some one else on the road).

I know exactly which plastic pieces you are referring to, but unfortunately I do not have a part number. I've had to get creative with the engine undercovers in the past on various vehicles. Somehow the cover gets damaged or the attachment screws and/or clips get lost. I chose one of the suggestions salimshah mentioned; which was to use different screws in those 2 spots. Actually, I purchased a set of bolts with 10mm heads and used those for all attachment points. They are fine threads, but worked in the plastic pieces you mentioned. There are also 2 spots that require plastic fasteners, which I had in my supply bin. AutoZone and O'Rielys carry an assortment of plastic push pins and fasteners, but they are pricey. You can buy and assortment pack from an eBay seller. Type in "plastic automotive fasteners" and you'll find a wide array of choices.
Are your plastic retainers damaged in some way?
