Orientation of oil drain plug gasket that is part metal/part rubber
Good afternoon,
I just purchased drain plug gaskets for an oil change and this is the first time on a vehicle I have seen them with part metal and part rubber.
Which side of the gasket (metal or rubber) goes against the drain plug and which side goes against the pan?
This is for a 2000 and 2003 RX300.
Thanks,
Rob

I've never seen a metal/rubber drain plug gasket for a Lexus, just the fiber type. My dealer told me that Lexus has used the same oil drain plug gasket for every vehicle they've ever made.

OEM seal/gasket has a blackish grey coating on both sides. That can be installed either side to the pan as they are symmetrical. Just remember to use torque wrench. You can feel your way, but I have seen pans ruined by tighten a bit more technique.
