Angry Annoying door ajar warning

The door ajar warning light comes on unpredictably on my 1999 RX300. I have checked all the doors and they are fully latched. Is there a possible loose connection I can check? Does the Service Bulletin # EL00400 cover this? Any help would be appreciated.

dm, you have also checked the hatch door? I'm sure you have.

There is a fix for the hatch latch becasue there are cases of it sticking so you can't unlatch it manually from the outside. The workaround is to push in on the door when you are pulling the manual latch (I put my knee against it if necessary).

ederny, Thanks for your response.
I have checked the hatch door as well. The thing is that the dor ajar light/bell comes on erratically as the car is moving, .e.g, when cornering or responding to uneven road surface. It occasionally stays on continuously; during one such episode I walked around the car and slammed each door including the hatch. The light stayed on throughout! I'm wondering if it's a faulty sensor or responder.

I'm also wondering whether the service notice covered this condition.

David, I'll have to look at some of the docs on this for a bit more detail, maybe tonight. However, you describe an intermittent and it is very likely related to one of the items you refer to. Here is something to try: because the door closed/latched sensors are part of the latching mechanism in the door, next time the alarm stays on and you can stop the car, get out close your door, check to see the alarm still on, go to each door and just push hard on the door near the latch mechanism to see if you can make the alarm go off. This will isolate it to a door. I would try a little lubricant on that latch to see if it would help. Otherwise, getting at the latch by taking the door apart may be the next step.

I had the same problem. Because of the door sensor, the alarm kept going off. Take it to the dealer. They'll fix it because it's a known issue. They turned it around in a couple of hours. When the job is done inspect their work (for me, it was the drivers door). They have to take off the interior panel to repair the door sensor.

Thanks for your inputs. I am bringing my car in Friday for its 60K mile service. They will be looking into the door ajar problem. I will let the forum know the results.
