About 8 months ago I lost my only key to my car. I got a local locksmith to reflash my ecu and made me a key. Stupidly, I didn’t get a 2nd key and guess what, lost it again about a week ago.

I called a locksmith again. He came out but couldn’t get it to reflash. He did cut keys for me. I have had two other locksmiths come out, but they say that the IC900 is damaged and have to get a new ecu.

I called the dealership, but their cost is over $3000, which my car is not worth that much.

I have found a place online where they program the right ecu to my specific vin and it’s “plug and play.” Only issue then is the keys.

Will they keys that the first locksmith made me work, or do they now need to be programmed to my new ecu? Thanks.

 

The magnetic signature of the key needs to be accepted by the installed ECU.

If you want the key you have to work with the eco, call the person who is going to flash the ECU to confirm. Tell them that you will send the key that you want to be programmed as a master key.

I always suggest that you are in procession of 2 master keys and 1 valet key.

You can also purchase a used eco with set of keys and then have your local locksmith adjust all lock cylinders to the new key [you can shop for eco, keys + cylinders too]

When the ecu is flashed correctly it will be in auto registration mode allowing you to add 3 keys by inserting them into the ignition.

The IC900 can be replaced if that is all that is bad.
