Hey everyone,
I had a check engine light flash the other day after I did a big drive from ATL to NYC, it P0330 bank 2 knock sensor, as a result my O/D light not coming on atm.
cleared the code just to see what would happen, and the code itself hasn't come back on. It's now been nearly 5 weeks and I've done a fair bit of driving and the code hasn't resurfaced, however my O/D light isn't coming on either.
Not sure what to do, I'd love to get away with not replacing the knock sensor as it doesn't seem to be an issue right now, but also I need O/D to come back otherwise it's just too fuel inefficient.

Please make sure the O/D disable button has not been engaged. Glance at the shift indicator in the instrument panel and make sure that D bulb is lit up.
Flashing CEL is typically due to misfire.

Thankyou The shift indicator D light does not light up when I shift into Drive. And the O/D button on the shifter doesn't activate the O/D

O/D will not engage if you have a CEL (in most cases there are some exceptions). The D bulb tends to burn out since it is on almost the entire time the car is being driven. What do you mean by O/D light, isn't the light active only when overdrive is turned off?

knock sensor is bad....watch this video, this is what you need to do : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_OLnJzLkF4
or you can tear into the motor to replace the part .... I would go for option 1

I'm running this hack on my bank 1 until I get a new sensor ordered.
Only one thing, someone should maybe confirm wiring and wire colors in case it is different for other RX300 years before diggin in unless they are all the same.

dcoverdale, drop a good knock sensor into the inlet manifold valley between no4 and no6 cylinders with the thread pointing down and clamp it in place with a small plate using the adjacent manifold bolt. Run a wire from that knock sensor through the big harness firewall grommet behind the battery and locate and cut the two wires (28 and 29) in slothman's video and connect your new wire to those two wires twisted together feeding into the computer. I used a second hand knock sensor from a scrapyard and it worked fine. It's easy enough to change if it doesn't work as it means loosening just one bolt.

Seems like a relocation of the knock sensor for easy access- which also sounds convenient for future repairs and hopefully doesn't cause any engine damage in the long run.

Hi margate330, this is the original thread on my solution to knock sensor problems in May 2020.
2001 Toyota Harrier 3.0L V6 knock sensors with the two fault codes, P0325 and P0330.
If there are other faults causing the 4th gear overdrive to not engage, this will obviously not help.
You say this hack has been used with great success but I am unable to find another thread on Google where my idea of clamping a knock sensor down to the inlet manifold has been implemented.
If you know of other instances please post some links for me. Thanks Bob.
Also, my car has been running perfectly since May 2020. I only use 95 octane fuel and my engine runs flawlessly.

Knock sensor reloaction: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...uestion-2.html
Maybe not bolted in same place but same idea.
I chose to do the ECM bank sharing hack but I was considering the other way but wanted confirmation if it could be a long term solution.

This video is legit if the knock sensor or harness is the problem.

They want $300+ ea for the sensors at my local dealer, have no problem with picking the wallet clean.
