Default Auto Transmission Fluid Level Check

The operators manual fails to provide information to the operator for checking the automatic transmission fluid level. It provides adequate information about checking all the other fluids in the vehicle, however omits this check.

I am asking and also asuming that the fluid level in the automatic transmission is check by the transmission dip stick with the vehicle engine running. Either hot or cold.

Is this correct?

Or should it be checked with the engine turned off?

Check auto trans oil with dipstick as you indicated. Fluid level should be between the two cut-out marks; the upper one when fluid/engine is hot (warmed up) and the lower one for cold. Engine must be running; transmission in park and probably a good idea to have the parking brake set.

Thanks.

I wonder why the owners manual does not explain this procedure.

My LS owners manual doesn't have it either.
