What was the need of changing thermostat?
Did you take steps to bleed air out of the coolant?
First make sure your coolant + engine cooling system is working normally. Then investigate the "mix servo" ... this controls the heat in the cabin.

Did you use an OEM thermostat? Toyota put an aftermarket thermostat in our RAV and I immediately had problems. I switched it out for OEM and all was well,

I bought it from AutoZone. So I only assume it's was for the car. Idk can't afford dealership prices. The heat will actually be hot for less then minute or so it's completely cold again

So it almost as it helped some , if that makes any sense to you. I know not one thing about cars or working on one. Toyota said they would diagnose problem for 39.99 , may have to go that route

Without more detail…For $40 have them diagnose it then post their recommendation here before spending $$$.

I could be beating a dead horse ... If your temp gauge starts creeping up from C to midway point and stop there, then there is no issue with the thermostat. If the temp gauge remains near C even after driving 20 minutes, then it is stuck open. If the temp gauge goes higher than 1/2 way, more investigation is needed, but it can be stuck closed. I suspect there was no issue with the thermostat.
Start by checking coolant level. Looking at the overflow chamber/reservoir is not the right way [well it can be once everything is normal], You have too look through the radiator cap with engine COLD. It should be full. If air was not removed from the system, the level will drop with each use [set the cabin heat to HOT]. Once the engine coolant and temp gauge tell you the engine cooling is working correctly, then switch to Cabin heat problem.
Please search on mix servo.

PS I hope you used the right coolant. The proper coolant is relatively expensive.
