Default Anyone install a rear spoiler? I

just bought a 99 RX 300 and I'd like to buy and install a rear OEM spoiler. Any idea how difficult this may be? Thanks for any advice.

I installed it myself last year. It is not difficult, just follow the instruction. You will need a
special needle gun. I bought the gun and a set of needle($20) at Home depot.
And I practiced to use the gun several time before I installed the spoiler. good luck.

If your '99 hasn't had a spoiler fitted before, you may be able to install the '00-'03 wing-type spoiler which is much better looking imho than the '99 version. I installed one on my '00 in a few hours without any difficulty. It involves drilling 4 holes in the rear hatch using the paper templates provided - scary, but if you cover the area with masking tape first and keep a steady hand it's not too bad. Two of the holes are for bolts but the other two are for plastic fittings which the spoiler sildes on to and you will need to use a rivet tool to attach these. I bought a cheap rivet gun (less than $15) which worked fine. My rear hatch had two existing holes in the underside with grommets which allow access for putting the nuts on the two bolts. I don't know if your '99 model would have them in the same place since the '99 spoiler is different.. and then you'll have to drill these holes as well. ... or maybe someone who has fitted the later spoiler on a '99 and knows this can reply.

check out spoilerdepot.com They also sell on eBay. They can tell you what will fit your 99.

I got my spoiler from them, prepainted, for about $150 I think. (got it from their eBay auction cheaper than their website)

I wasn't comfortable doing it myself, so I paid a local paint/body/custom shop about $70 to install it in about an hour. These places do lot's of spoilers and air dams. If you can find one of those little performance shops that deal in Japanese cars like Civics and such, they should be able to do the install blindfolded.

I'm in Houston area, so plenty of cheap custom shops.

I watched them install... they made it look easy. But if you're not comfortable drilling into your paint, I'd let a professional do it.

I'd like to exchange my tan 99 spoiler for newer one. Interested in mine? Has anyone done that? Do all the old holes get covered up or used?
