2008 Lexus RX350: Removing key from ignition no longer stops chime when door is opened. Door lock/unlock stopped working on key fob at the same time. I assume a connection is bad somewhere, or bad relay. Where do I look?

I'm wondering if the ignition switch thinks the key is still inserted. Does the steering wheel retract into the dash when you remove the key and extend out to the driving position when you insert the key?

 

Perhaps disconnect the vehicle's battery for a while for a reset, is worth a try. Also check the battery power on the key fob. You wouldn't think these issues have anything to do with one another even if it happened at the same time.

 

Put some wd-40 on the key insert and turn a couple of times. it fixed my issue.

My wife took the car to a local repair shop which we have trusted for years. They fixed the problem by "cleaning" the accumulated gunk on /in the ignition tumblers and backside wiring harness. 190,000 miles and still going strong. Keep machinery well maintained and it will work a along time.

My last car was a 2005 Volvo XC90 w V8 which I gave to our gardening helper. It had 210k miles, now with 240k and still running well. My (competitive) wife wants to better the 210k miles before getting a new car. Considering an Audi E-tron SUV.
