Default AC Fan

Odd question perhaps. On a few occasions when it has been very hot and humid (90+) and the car has been outside, the compressor for the AC will engage but the fan does not. Normally, I would think a blown fuse or something similar, but the fact that it does that only occasionally leads me to believe that is not likely. Maybe a loose wire? If the refrigerant if low, would that also perhaps cause the problem although there's not indication that is the case. Engine temp is also always good, never getting past mid range. Also, when the AC/fan does kick on, it works great regardless of the temp. Any trouble shooting tips?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pat,

Something is definately not right.
From memory, the condensor fan located on the passenger side should come on when the AC compressor engages.

There was a recent thread on this where the fan was going bad and the AC compressor would not engage with the fan not running.

I will need to dig into the schematics but you can try to carefully give the fan a spin and see if it takes off and starts running when you have your ac turned on.

It's only when the AC compressor is engaged this fan should be running and I believe it is controlled by the AC Amplifier ecu module.

This module is cheap if needing to replace it with used off ebay, need the correct part# tho from old one.

Anyway, I will look more into the ciruit when I get time and follow up.

Thanks so much. I guess I am thinking that perhaps the most logical answer is that the fan is going out. Really appreciate your help!!

Hi Pat, I'm not so sure about this only because your compressor should not be allowed to run if the fan won't turn on.

The fan in question is the one on the passenger side for cars in US.
