New Alternator and Battery - Still dies
Hi,
A couple days ago my car(2007 RX 350) died while running so I take it to a mechanic who said it was probably a faulty alternator and replaced it, I also bought a new battery. After this the battery light didnt go away and after a bit of driving all the lights came on including ABS OFF, red exclamation, ASC off, then the speedometer turned off then the car shut down. Anyone know what the issue could be, car can't even be jumped anymore.
TIA

The issue could be you are dealing with a terrible and dishonest mechanic and are due your money back plus an apology. You paid someone to remedy a problem, the problem still persists yet you sound like you are out a chunk of money... that sounds like an issue ot me.
He should have diagnosed the problem rather than spending your time and money throwing parts at it "hoping".
Now the problem with your car, could be several things:
A faulty or broken ground wires
A "new" battery does not equal a fully charged battery contrary to most people's assumption. Was the battery fully charged prior to installing it? Many places you buy them from have chargers there to assure theya re fully charged. Anytime you install a new battery always charge them fully before installing
Parasitic drain - a good voltmeter can diagnose this
Faulty/dirty conenctors
Bad/corroded battery terminals
Nw alternator may not be good - that can be cheked with a good voltmeter
What was the last thing that happened or was worked one prior to this issue? Any previous issues? Has the car been worked on recently? Too many unanswered questions
Bottom line - do not trust this mechanic. Someone should do a thorough evaluation to see what the actual problem THEN find solutions

Voltage reading

12.4 volts isn't fully charged. But with the car running, 14.1 volts is about correct. Has your issue continued? What did your garage check and verify before completing all the work?
